CW General Meeting; May 14, 2009

Co president’s Carolyn  and Betsy called an informal meeting to order.  The only agenda item besides eating and drinking was the election of new officers for the 2009-2010 term.

The Slate to be voted on were:

The vote was unanimous to accept this slate of officers.  A toast to the new officers was made, applause and then we continued our chatter, eating and drinking.  Congratulations!

CW General Meeting; May 14, 2009


Cinco de Mayo Celebration – home of Señora Pamela

Meeting called to order by co-president Carolyn A.

The following announcements were made:

·       A note of appreciation read from Las Trampas Development Director for our volunteer effort for the April 26th Hat Benefit.

·       RES SUCCESS Founder and Executive Director Ian Bremner has received the Jefferson Awards - a prestigious national recognition system honoring community and public volunteerism in America.

·       Linda S. has asked for help with the Fall Benefit for RES – looking for ideas for a theme.  Discussion later in the meeting.

·       Day At The Races tickets are available - $33, May 17 at 11 am.  Right now 7 signed up – we will get a small donation from the sale of these tickets.

·       According to Pat M. our member Joyce P. is going through chemo (4-5 hours a month), she’s in good spirits and is up and about.  Side note:  Carolyn A. said Joyce was her supervisor.

·       CW creed recited.

National Philanthropy chair Barbara S. asked to report on her recent trip to Lincoln, Nebraska to begin plans for the 2010 Special Olympics National Games. She and her committee were there 2 ½ days with the GOC (Games Organizing Committee) looking for hotel rooms and reception sites. It was a successful trip with more details to be reported later this year.

·       Color copy of the cover of the next Quarterly shown – it will feature Past National President Arlene L. who just passed away.

·       National President monthly letter available on the web – she mentioned her recent visit to the OAK chapters – many glowing remarks.

Vice President:  Marty P. – no report.

Treasurer:  Barbara D. said she’d forgot to email the latest financial statement but she did not write any checks in.  She also reported that the bank returned the $25 special fund assessment charge – this news was met with enthusiastic response from all!

Corresponding Secretary:  Joyce S. – no report.

Nominating Chair:  Karen T. presented the 2009-2010 slate of officers:

We will vote in June for this slate.  Committee members were Carol B., Candi S., Barbara D. and Karen T. Great JOB!

Philanthropy:  Kate M. report 217 volunteer hours from the recent HAT benefit.  She thanked all that helped.  She mentioned that the Hall of Fame presentation by co-president Betsy S. was great – she “shined!”

“Escape To Africa” Benefit:  Barbara S. reported the financial statement from the recent benefit .

·       A special thank you to the Joyce and & Jerry S. for donating 4 cases of Champagne and storing (liquor) and setting up the bars.

·       Raffle winner was our own Bobby D.

·       The OAK auction basket was spectacular and brought in the most money ever - $1000!  Thanks to the designers Jody L., Betsy S. and Cicina N. and other OAK contributors.  A definite team effort.

Historian:  Ellen F. – no report.

Parliamentarian:  Karen T. reported the bylaw change to give the installation oath duties to the Parliamentarian approved by the membership.

Quarterly Editor & Skywriting Editor:  no report

Social:  Carol B. reported little response to the planned Bus/Winery/lunch planned for June 18th.  Deadline for reservation is June 1 – flyer distributed.  Discussion to open this up to “friends” will be determined at a later date.

RES:  Motion made by Cosette M. that OAK commits to helping out with the RES fundraiser in Fall, 2009.  Seconded by Marty P.  Discussion.  Members agreed that our participation would be for food, staffing and raffle sales.  The event is generally the 2nd Sunday of November (11/15?).  Motion voted and approved.

Way & Means:  Trudy E. and Susan W. presented the raffle “bag” – and Carolyn A. won it; and yes, she drew her own number – this is the third time a winner has drawn their own raffle ticket.  Fabulous prizes were found in the decorative bag!

Most Valuable Member: Nomination forms will be emailed out to the membership – award presented at the September installation.

Hospitality:  Carol B. was the Galley Goddess for this event.  She provided home grown roses for the centerpiece, coordinated taco salad fixings from her committee and all cleaned up to the delight and appreciation of the hostess.

No meeting planned for June.  There being no further business the meeting was adjourned to Margarita’s and Taco Salad.
