Highlights of January, 2009 General Meeting





Co-President Carolyn A. began the meeting with Announcements:

-Pat M. reported Helen S. was in the hospital, admitted Saturday.  She’s been in and out of ICU and has requested NO VISITORS & NO PHONE CALLS.  Husband Joe reported a feistier Helen this morning – cards are welcome and should be sent to her home.  Prayers welcome. 

-According to Linda S. former member Doris P. has moved to the Danville “Sunrise” facility on Diablo Road.  Cards would be appreciated. 

-Ted W. had another fall; notes of encouragement most welcome to Bonnie.

-National President Letter:  Letter can be found on the clippedwings.com website.

-Philanthropy hours should be counted for knitting scarves for upcoming SO in Boise. Knitters please give your time to Philanthropy chair Kate M.

 Recording Secretary:  Minutes emailed and snail mailed to all members for review.

Treasurer:  Barbara D. reminded members to give her all email, phone, and/or address changes. She reported 59 members.  Discussion followed on the amount of funds reserved for 2010 convention – we will reserve $800 per year according to approved budget.  Las Trampas and RES donation already voted on per budget.  Suggestion by Karen T. about helping members’ daughter – more information needed and will report back next month.  Three members  going to volunteer for the upcoming 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games in Boise in February – discussion about funding them in some small way – will discuss the matter at the February meeting.

Philanthropy: Kate M. acknowledged several “groups” of Christmas elves.

Hall of Fame: Kate M. reported on the committee’s recent meeting (Wednesday, 1/7/09).  The first Hall of Fame Recipient will be Terry H.  A future social event is being planned for the First Hall of Fame presentation to be made.

Historian:  Ellen F., not in attendance though her beautiful albums were on display for all to see – fabulous!

Benefit: Report presented by Barbara St.  The “Escape To Africa” benefit will be held Sunday, April 26, 2009.  Barbara presented and requested ideas for OAK uniforms for the event.  Several options were shown – two animal print vests.  Vija L. suggested scarves.  The thought was for everyone to check out their own closets and see if they have some safari type attire. Motion made by Lucy F. for members to make their own individual safari themed outfits and wear them to the March meeting, seconded by Carol B. and approved.  It was mentioned that we only needed to be costumed from the waist up since no one sees our feet – thanks Trudy.  Carol B. offered her friends 5-6 foot wood animals for the event though they are in Indio!

Benefit Invitation Addressing date:  Cool your jets - it will NOT be March 12th since that is the regular March meeting – Karen T. will get back to us with the correct date.

Hospitality:  Linda S. reported on the next couple of meeting days and her creative themes:

            -Valentine Day luncheon at Uncle U’s on February 12; $21; RSVP is February 5th.  Contact Carol B. with check - ASAP.   

            -Irish Coffee Delight on March 12 at the home of Linda S. Galley Goddess is Pat M.; other helpers include Cosette M., Joyce S., Pamela B., Bobby D., and Kate M.

            -April Tax & Tin Plate/ Chili and Cornbread: hostess needed! Galley Goddess: Trudy E. assisted by Micki B., Jackie C., Angie D., Kate M., Nancy J. & KarenT.

            -May Cinco de Mayo- Senora Pamela's hacienda: May 14th. Galley Goddess Carol B., helpers are Lucy F., Shirley E., Pam L., Jean B. & Bonnie H.

           -June 14th Social: we need a hostess or suggestion for this event.  Please call Carol B. with ideas!

Quarterly Reporter:  Candi S. has her article written – “plagiarized” from Skywritings and OAK minutes – article will include current pictures.

Skywriting: Vija said the next issue will be late February or when the mood strikes us.

Social:  Not a thing to report.  But then Carolyn A. reported the mailing from the Golden Gates racetrack – we are offered the Preakness or Belmont Days for $40 a piece or $27 for Sunday events. 8 members indicated interest - Carolyn will check with track to determine minimum number necessary for that price.  Interested in May 17th.

Hostess:  Karen T. and her gallery of “goddesses” thanked for the delicious Pumpkin Soup and other favors; Head Goddess was Susan C. with help from Pam L., Micki B., Jackie C., Bobby D. and Vija L.   All delightful!  Pumpkin Soup recipe attached.

Museum Event: Karen T. reported on the March 5th as the date of the trip to SF to see the Yves St. Laurent Show at the De Young Museum.  Cost anywhere from $10 to $20.  We will carpool – meet at the pink wall at the St. Stephens exit at 8:30 a.m.

Loaves & Fishes:  Members helping with the Loaves & Fishes have been temporarily canceled – sign of the times! 

Tea in the FALL:  Karen T. reported on Flyer for a Victorian Tea in Livermore sometime in the FALL – benefits Ravenswood.  Will table for now – potential Social.

Ways & Means: Tickets sold by Trudy E. with help by Jackie . The winner was Barbara D.  Fabulous items!

National Poll:  Members asked to vote on this matter.  Emails accepted & ballots provided.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned (to the kitchen and yummy and shared sandwiches) at 1:40 P.M.
