OAK March 12, 2009 -----Home of Linda S.

Introduction and Welcome to current Flight Attendant Carolyn B. representing the CAUSE Foundation (a non profit Human ServiceOrganization by and for United Airlines Flight Attendants and their Families).  She is a member of the Board of Directors – the governing body of the foundation.  Her domicile is San Francisco and with the aid of a committee selects monthly, flight attendants and/or families, needing help -  “The CAUSE Foundation® was established in 1994 by flight attendants for Flight Attendants. Our mission is to assist United Airlines flight attendants and their families worldwide who are in financial distress due to illness, injury, disability or death.  The CAUSE Foundation® helps families maintain their dignity when faced with loss of income or overwhelming medical bills.”  At the last CW convention we voted to “donate ten percent (10%) of the philanthropic funds allocated in 2008 – 2010 to the C.A.U.S.E. Foundation.”  CAUSE brochures were distributed and for $12 a “Cooking for a CAUSE” recipe book was available.

  1. Hi Pamela et al,
Thoroughly enjoying the Dreams Resort on the beach outside of Puerto Vallarta. - A true paradise - even with internet connection!

My only frustration is I haven't been able to get through to you, Pamela - Guess they don't trust your CW email address!

Will write more when I have time - awfully busy!!

  2. My name is Derrick Chan and I am the administrative assistant for the UCSF Flight Attendant Medical Research Institute. We are running a study involving all flight attendants over the age of 40 with a minimum of 5 years flight experience. We are looking at the effects of second hand smoke and its correlation with lung and heart disease and hoping you would all be willing to participate. Participants should expect to have a Pulmonary Function test (PFT) and an examination by one of our physicians.

Patients will be paid $100.00 approximately 6-8 weeks on completion of their appointment. In addition, volunteers will receive a parking voucher and lunch vouchers for use at the UCSF Cafeteria.

Whether or not they participate in the clinical study, we would like flight attendants to complete our online questionnaire found at http://www.imenet.net/UCSFQuest/

I was hoping you would be able to help get the word out to all the members in your organization. We would be more than willing to come speak at one of your meetings if there are any in the San Francisco Bay Area. If you have any suggestions on how to reach other flight attendants, please contact us at FAMRI@ucsfmedctr.org. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
